i mean, you could've been made to be an islamic fundamentalist or something, right?
Having been raised a JW, then raising 5 children as JW's, it's been difficult to look back and think it was all bad. As a child I don't remember celebrating anything, but I also don't think of my childhood as bad, or missing out on anything. But then again, I was a very shy, quite person (unlike now)! I think our children had a good childhood also, although looking back I do have regrets that we didn't allow them any close, "worldly" friends, no dances (that we knew of anyway), no sports etc. We let our youngest play golf in school, before our exit out of the WT, and it was great. I think we taught them to be loving, kind and generous persons, reflected in their lives today. But, then again, as a non-JW, I would have taught them this also, and maybe they would have been even more so. My husband regrets that he never pursued an education, beyond being a janitor early on and a concrete laborer, thinking the end would be any day, and as such, are like most JW's and ex-JW's, with little or no retirement (since we wouldn't need it). I also wouldn't have met my wonderful husband (Rockhound) of nearly 42 years. So I guess I have regrets, I'm sure we all do, but some good came out of it too!

i am studying about jw, and as i understand it you do not believe in the trinity, how can you not belive in something that the bible says is real, i understand that the word trinity itself is not in the bible, but that does not mean that it does not exist especially since the triune god is talked about in the bible...
A great book to read, by Ron Frye, is The Father Son Relationship. I just finished reading it for the 2nd time. It examines all sides, quoting from early Church Fathers etc. Gives a well rounded out view, including the view that since the word "trinity" isn't in the Bible, would that mean the concept isn't there?

i always thought that my dad was a smart man, that he still had his common sense, but now i see that's not true.
and for some stupid reason, this has really got to me tonight.
i'm sharing the content of this discussion so that maybe someone else can see the ignorance of this horrible religion of people who cannot really love because their evil bible won't let them.
How in the world can a JW possibly think they really "abstain" from blood, and pour the blood out on the ground??? Fractions of all the components are allowed, yet these take gallons of blood for minute fractions, requiring blood to be stored, not poured out? Taking a "fraction" (little bit) of blood is still taking blood, just as stealing just a little, is still stealing! I can't believe I ever thought this made sense. Actually, it didn't make sense as I couldn't explain it, I just believed because the "We Say-So Corporation" said it was so. Thank goodness we're out.

my husband, the black pearl, had a interesting conversation with his mother today.
she was trying to be all kiss butt nice, for today that is, to tell him about the new tract that is coming out in october.
apparently they don't have it yet.
Haven't read all the posts, so forgive me if I repeat someone else's thoughts. Was reading a post the other day and the tract work was mentioned. The question was asked...how many tracts have there been...30+, and how many of those were telling everyone the end was so close...what would make this tract any different than all the past tracts??? Good questions to ask a JW.

is important for me to come clean as it were.
the topics that are written by me are varied, from contro-.
At least here we are free to give our opinions, and what we've researched. Everyone is free to accept or reject, not forced to believe. I have been out for about 4 years now. I was baptized in 1958, so was quite indoctrinated. The questions posed by anyone on this forum should get us to think (finally), and respond if one feels the need. I am thankful to this board because I found there are so, so many like myself, and we're not alone!

i live in memphis.
months ago, i had some jw's come by and talk with me.
i'm a believer in the holy bible.
I just finished reading, for the second time, a book by Ron Frye, called "The Father Son Relationship". I think you can find it on Commentary Press. It's excellent. It looks at the early history of the Trinity, showing pros and cons. It examines the relationship of the Father, Son and the holy spirit. I was confused when I started reading the Bible, the many places Jesus was gives such an elevated position, when just reading the Wt and Aw, you didn't really see that. Not until I began reading the Bible with my blinders off, did I see the VERY important position Jesus should have in our lives. The book really cleared up much of my confusion, examining words, expressions etc., and their early meanings. Maybe this book would help you. It's only about 80 pages, but packed with great information.

the insert is called "how do i view blood fractions and medical procedures involving my own blood?
" i will attempt to transcribe the more salient points for everyone here.. paragraph 1 (verbatim): the bible commands christians to "abstain ... from blood.
" (acts 15:20) thus, jehovah's witnesses do not accept transfusions of whole blood or the four primary components of blood-namely, red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma.
Shortly before my father passed away, I overheard doctors talking, saying albumin might help him. I rushed in and said he could have albumin. His doctor looked at me with a question on his face and said, "but you don't take blood". I told him we don't, but albumin would be ok. I called the local elders and they made copies of the magazine articles showing why we could now take fractions. When I gave this to him, he again said, "but I thought you didn't take blood". I said the articles would explain it better than I could. They began giving my father the albumin, but it was to late, and he really needed it much earlier. After my father died, it really began bothering me, how quickly I could do a mental "flip-flop" just because the magazines had an article showing "new light" on the blood issue. The facts are, blood is blood, a little or a lot, just as fornication is fornication, you do it or you don't, not do it just a little. I read an illustration, maybe from Rays book, but it's about a ham sandwich. Saying you can take fractions, but not the main components is like saying you can eat that sandwich, the ham, cheese, mayo, lettuce, bread etc., but just not at the same time, as a sandwich. What kind of crazy reasoning is that? Looking back, I find it amazing that you can be so easily swayed when you're in a cult. Thank goodness we're out!

what is it makes some of those wacky apostates appear from time to time claiming russell and the witnesses were/are all part of some great freemason/illuminati plot?
i'll tell you what it is, and it may explain a few other things for you too!
people who come up with these theories demonstrate a basic psychological insecurity stemming from their involvement and subsequent disentanglement from the witnesses.
There is dishonesty dealing with the 607 issue, quoting AK Grayson as meaning 607 instead of 586-587 which his research said. Also, changing the dates in Harpers Bible Dictionary from 586-587 to 607, all to fit their "needs" to end up at 1914 and 1918. The dishonesty can be seen in the New World Translation also, adding words, sometimes with brackets and many without brackets, all the same, changing the meaning drastically in quite a number of verses, when, according to the foreward, they are used only to enhance the English language. The list can go on and on, as the replys to your post are showing.
There is plenty of dishonesty. I'm sure the great majority of JW's, even at Bethyl, are completely unaware of the dishonesty, that is why so many are leaving. Issues like what you've brought up, really do a lot to keep some of the main issues to the front on this forum, where "lurkers" can find out for themselves.
whats the funniest comment heard from the audience during a wt study/book study/service meeting?.
we had a young retarded kid in our cong , who had his hand up for every single question , usually the bro would take his comment as he would just say "jehovah" but this time he takes the mic and starts this long winded comment rounded off with"satans going to cause a civil war!
priceless !.
Back around 1965, my dad was the "congregation servant", and during the CO visit while conducting the WT study, he was explaining how Satans organization has tentacles spread everywhere, but he said "testicles" instead. Everyone could hardly control themselves and my dad didn't realize what he said.
